Moser announces candidacy for Norwood School Committee
Ben Moser, a candidate for School Committee, will co-host a meet-the-candidate event with fellow candidate, Mike Sangalang, at Napper Tandy’s in Norwood on Thursday, March 19 at 7 p.m.
Moser, the parent of a sixth grader who has attended NPS since kindergarten, has some ideas already about how to help the school district cope with some challenges ahead. “I have worked in online education for almost 20 years,” said Moser. “I’ve navigated changes in that space including shrinking budgets, evolving technology, and needed advocacy for both students and their instructors. As I’ve watched the work of the School Committee, I’ve found points where my experience could help Norwood navigate the changing education landscape.”
He knows there are some difficult budget decisions facing the School Committee.
“The NPS budget is a complex reflection not only of our finances, but also our values and priorities. Every dollar spent in one area is a dollar not being spent elsewhere,” said Moser. As a member of Town Meeting since 2019, he is well-aware of the financial challenges the community faces. “The school budget is already tight; we’re well past the point that any cuts will be obvious or easy to make,” said Moser. “I will do my best to make the case for preserving the parts of NPS that give Norwood a sense of pride and our kids a sense of joy in their learning.” Moser and his family are members of the First Congregational Church in Norwood, where he teaches Sunday School. He is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a degree in communications.
